HULU LANGAT – Masjid Al-Ehsan in Kampung Sungai Serai has once again been inundated by floods, marking the third such incident this year following heavy rainfall in the area.
The mosque’s imam, Muhd Aliff Daniel Muhd Zahudi said fortunately, no equipment was damaged during the one-metre flood on Monday.
“In September, we didn’t manage to move the carpets during the second flood incident,” he told Sinar on Tuesday.
Zahudi added that the mosque, which was built in the 1990s, has been frequently affected by flooding due to heavy rain.
“A new mosque located near Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Dusun Nanding is currently under construction and is expected to be completed in two years,” he said.
Meanwhile, the principal of KAFA Integrasi Kampung Sungai Serai, Martini Mohamad Saleh said the school located near the mosque was also hit by floods.
“Many chairs and tables were damaged in the flood that began at 9am on Monday. This school has been flooded more than six times this year,” she added.
A field visit by Sinar found that the floodwaters had receded, with cleaning efforts actively being carried out throughout the village.
Personnel from the Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) were deployed to assist with the school's cleanup.
On Monday, the media reported that a temporary relief centre (PPS) was opened at Sekolah Kebangsaan Sungai Serai to house affected families, while evacuation operations were carried out by the Cheras Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) using rescue boats and four-wheel-drive vehicles.
