SHAH ALAM - Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin has stepped down from his role as the senior political secretary to the Prime Minister, citing attempts to undermine him in a manner he said could harm the image of the Madani government.

In a brief statement posted on X on Tuesday, Shamsul revealed that he acted after being alerted to efforts aimed at discrediting him.

“This morning I also submitted my resignation letter to the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. Thank you, Prime Minister, for the trust given to me,” he said.

Earlier, former Economy Minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli urged the prime minister to take action, including a possible investigation by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), regarding a letter of support issued by one of his political secretaries.

Anwar explained that the letter of support was "vague" and did not constitute an instruction, besides stressing that the project approval process was not affected by the letter as the relevant authorities were fully aware of the standard procedures.
