KOTA KINABALU - Former foreign minister Tan Sri Anifah Aman has failed in his attempt to reclaim the Bongawan seat.
Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate Mohamad Alamin emerged victorious, defeating Anifah, who contested under the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) banner.
According to unofficial results as of 8pm, Alamin beat eight other contenders in the nine-cornered fight for the seat, which has 24,019 registered voters.
The contest for Bongawan also featured Dr Daud Yusof from Parti Warisan (Warisan), Dolores Michael (Star), Ridzuan Firdaus (Perikatan Nasional), Royston Adven (Parti Impian Sabah), Md Haris Md Tahir (Independent), Peter Matinjal (KDM) and Hussin Dasar (Parti Perpaduan Rakyat Sabah).
The seat was previously held by Warisan, which won it during the last state election.
