SHAH ALAM – If books are your weakness, you might want to pace your excitement, because Big Bad Wolf Books is returning with the World’s Biggest Book Experience at the Sunway Pyramid Convention Centre from Dec 19, 2025 to Jan 4, 2026.
The 17-day event, which promises the most immersive edition ever held in Malaysia, will feature millions of brand-new books, discounts of up to 95 per cent, curated genre lanes, an expanded children’s discovery zone and extended opening hours from 10am to 2am daily.
Admission is free.
Co-founder Andrew Yap described the 2025 edition as Big Bad Wolf’s “boldest” yet, with a completely redesigned layout and interactive elements aimed at transforming how Malaysians discover books.
“The Wolf has always symbolised breaking barriers to reading. This year, we’re bringing that character to life.
“Families and children will finally meet the Wolf up close, making this our most engaging and memorable edition yet,” Yap said during an exclusive behind-the-scenes media preview at the company’s headquarters.
He noted that the extended 2am closing time was deliberate.
“Many of our customers only arrive at 10pm or 11pm especially those who still remember our 24-hour sales. December also sees many domestic tourists travelling from other states, so we want the event to be as accessible as possible,” he added.
A fully redesigned ‘book experience’
This year’s Kuala Lumpur flagship event features a refreshed floor layout designed to improve crowd flow and browsing convenience, with curated genre lanes and an expanded children’s discovery zone complete with learning corners and interactive setups.
Visitors can also enjoy daily festive activities, including storytelling sessions, meet-and-greet appearances, creative demonstrations and photo-worthy installations inspired by the brand’s playful visual identity.
Co-founder Jacqueline Ng emphasised that the transformation was driven by their desire to make reading joyful and memorable.
“We want people to leave feeling inspired, entertained and connected through books. Our goal for 2025 is to turn book hunting into a full experience, exciting not only for avid readers, but for families, children and even first-time visitors,” she added.
Exclusive media preview and mascot debut
Press members were given a rare look at the giant warehouse operations behind Big Bad Wolf’s signature events, from curation processes to new experiential zones.
The preview also showcased the first-ever appearance of the official Big Bad Wolf mascot in Malaysia, following its international tour in the Philippines, Thailand and Indonesia.
The friendly mascot will make daily appearances throughout the Kuala Lumpur flagship event.
“Accessibility is everything”, making books affordable for all
Yap reiterated that affordability remains at the heart of Big Bad Wolf’s mission.
“This event is built on accessibility. The variety, the low prices, the experience, this is what keeps Malaysians coming back,” he said.
Ng added that although many of the books are premium international titles, the prices remain famously low.
“People are constantly amazed when they see books for RM3 or RM5. We also carry high-end box sets and collectibles that normally cost hundreds, but here customers don’t pay those amounts,” she said.
She highlighted the social impact the sale brings.
“Many parents turn this into a family outing. When children choose their own books, they’re far more likely to read them and because our prices are so low, we encourage customers to buy an extra book to give away, especially for children who don’t have access to books at home,” Ng said.
BookXcess to launch “World’s Best 24-Hour Bookstore”
During the media preview, Yap also revealed major developments at Big Bad Wolf’s sister company, BookXcess, including what he described as the “world’s best bookstore”, opening at Sunway Square in 2026.
“The book industry is tough. We’ve seen players rise and fall. But with our new Sunway Square store, we’re taking on a completely new direction in books, customer service and overall experience,” he said.
Spanning 38,000 square feet and operating 24 hours a day, the store will feature an acre-sized book floor and fully air-conditioned study and community zones.
It will also house the first Becon Signature stationery outlet, a Kenny Hills Bakers café open 24 hours, around 300 seats for students and visitors, free-seating areas with charging ports and Wi-Fi, and a DJ booth at the centre of the store.
“This flagship carries an entirely fresh theme, nothing reused from other branches. It marks a new beginning for BookXcess,” Ng added.
A new chapter for Malaysia's reading community
With a bigger space, longer hours, richer experiences and the debut of its beloved mascot, Big Bad Wolf Books is gearing up for its most ambitious and impactful event yet.
The organisers say the goal remains unchanged: to make reading accessible, affordable and exciting for every Malaysian, regardless of age or background.
