BERLIN - It's really difficult to tell the difference between music created by humans and by artificial intelligence (AI), a study published on Wednesday has found, reported German Press Agency (dpa).
In the survey by market research institute Ipsos on behalf of streaming provider Deezer, participants were played three songs - two created by AI and one by humans - and asked to identify which song was created by which.
Of the 9,000 participants in the representative survey, 97 per cent got it wrong.
After the experiment, the survey participants were asked how they felt about comparing pure AI music with human-made music: More than half (52 per cent) felt uncomfortable because they couldn't tell the difference.
However, the survey also revealed curiosity about AI and music. For example, 46 per cent believed that AI could help them discover new music that suits their own taste.
There was also scepticism among respondents. The survey found that a good two-thirds of respondents believe that AI contributes to devaluing human creativity in the music industry.
Ipsos surveyed 9,000 adults in eight countries between October 6 and 10. These were Germany, the United States (US), Canada, Brazil, the United Kingdom (UK), France, the Netherlands and Japan. - BERNAMA
