SHAH ALAM - Long before its doors opened, anticipation was already brewing in Kampung Baru.
After a year of secrecy, content creator–turned–entrepreneur Khairul Aming Kamarulzaman, also known as KA, unveiled his first-ever restaurant, Rembayung, a village-inspired retreat in the heart of Kuala Lumpur.
In a viral three-minute Instagram video, he shared the news, quickly drawing congratulations from fans and celebrities.
“Welcome to Khairul Aming’s first restaurant. After keeping it secret for a year, today we can finally announce that the first Khairul Aming restaurant has been completed,” he said.
Investing RM4 million, KA built the village-style restaurant from scratch on an 8,000-square-foot plot, starting early in the year to ensure every detail was perfect.
“With the help of a seasoned industry partner, the three of us worked together to turn this idea into a reality,” he added.
The result is a two-storey semi–glass house with warehouse accents, designed for 250 diners and a global audience.
“We chose a semi–glass house design with warehouse elements to cater to Khairul Aming’s crowd, not only from Malaysia but also from around the world,” he said.
He shared the behind-the-scenes, where the kitchen alone cost over RM10 million, complete with brand-new, high-quality appliances, adding that once construction finished, the interior design phase brought in wooden textures, greenery and even a giant fan to recreate a breezy village feel.
“We want you to feel that stepping into the restaurant gives a dining experience unlike any other,” he said.
Rembayung is visible even from the KLCC skyline. KA employed 50 local youths, who only discovered the restaurant’s identity after being hired and ran training sessions to ensure a smooth launch.
“After 10 years in the online world, KA is finally ready to step into the offline world as the beginning of the next 10-year phase. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Rembayung.
“Who would have thought that I once started cooking alone on the floor and 10 years later I am able to build a restaurant in the middle of Kuala Lumpur and create jobs for 50 more local youths," he added, reflecting on his journey.
His vision for Rembayung extends beyond the city: “KA truly hopes that Rembayung will become a tourist attraction for visitors from all over the world to try our proud kampung dishes.”
The Instagram video racked up 300,000 likes and 12,800 comments in just one hour, signalling the launch of a bold new chapter for the online star.
