TAWAU - A man was arrested after allegedly striking his wife’s head with an electric fan in a violent outburst after she refused to give him RM10.
The incident occurred at about 1.15pm in September in Felda Umas, where the 34-year-old woman was assaulted during an argument that escalated into violence.
Police later detained the suspect.
Deputy district police chief Champin Piuh said the incident began with an argument in a room before the suspect hit the victim on the head with an electric fan, causing injuries.
Following the report lodged by the victim, a team from the Criminal Investigation Division of the Tawau District Police Headquarters arrested the 43-year-old suspect at his home.
Checks revealed that the suspect had past criminal records involving Section 323 of the Penal Code and Section 18A of the Domestic Violence Act and he was listed as a wanted person.
Police also seized the electric fan believed to have been used in the attack.
Champin said the case was being investigated under the same legal provisions and further checks on the suspect’s criminal history were being carried out to complete the investigation papers.
He stressed that the police would not compromise with any individual who commits domestic violence and that firm action would be taken against offenders regardless of family ties.
“The public is advised not to allow domestic conflicts to escalate into violence and to seek help from the authorities immediately if their safety is threatened.
“Remaining silent will only give space for the perpetrator to act more aggressively,” he added.
