KUALA LUMPUR - A nine-year-old girl was among eight people injured in a multi-vehicle collision with a Malaysian Red Crescent Society ambulance at the Jalan Usahawan 6 traffic light intersection in Setapak here this morning.
Head of Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department, ACP Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa, said the 8.10 am crash occurred when the ambulance, driven by a 34-year-old man, entered the junction on a red light and collided with a car driven by a 30-year-old man.
"Due to the impact, the ambulance careered off the road, striking four motorcyclists, a nine-year-old girl who was a pillion passenger on one of the motorcycles, and another car that was stationary at the traffic light.
"A 40-year-old male motorcyclist sustained a broken thigh bone. The other victims, including the young girl, only suffered minor injuries. All casualties received treatment at Kuala Lumpur Hospital," he said in a statement today.
Mohd Zamzuri said the ambulance was on its way to pick up a patient from the Gombak Setia People's Housing Project.
He said the case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. He urged witnesses to come forward to the nearest police station or to contact the Tun H.S. Lee Traffic Police Station directly at 03-2071 9999.
Earlier, a 36-second dashboard camera video went viral, showing the ambulance veering off and crashing into several motorcyclists at the junction. - BERNAMA
