KUALA LUMPUR – Popular tourist hotspots around Jalan Bukit Bintang were found littered with rubbish following Christmas night celebrations, triggering concerns over public hygiene and the capital’s international image.

Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) stated that the indiscriminate disposal of rubbish by irresponsible individuals has negatively impacted the cleanliness and aesthetic appeal of the city centre.

“Even as the public enjoys the festive atmosphere, the responsibility to maintain cleanliness must remain a priority,” DBKL said in a Facebook post on Thursday.

The local authority urged visitors to utilise the bins provided and to treat shared public spaces with respect.

“Avoid throwing rubbish carelessly; use the bins provided and take care of the public spaces that we share together,” the statement added.

DBKL further stressed that individual accountability plays a vital role in preserving the long-term cleanliness and reputation of Kuala Lumpur.
