PASIR GUDANG – Obsession with insurance claim money is believed to have driven a woman to conspire with her boyfriend to kill her husband at Taman Ehsan Jaya here last week.
Seri Alam District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Sohaimi Ishak said the 47-year-old local man was attacked while he was asleep.
He said the suspect, believed to be the victim’s wife’s boyfriend, pressed a pillow over the victim’s face, causing him to struggle for breath.
“Investigations found that the incident occurred on Dec 22, when the victim’s wife not only allowed the suspect into the house but also held the victim’s legs to facilitate the attempted murder.
“However, the victim managed to fight back and escape before the suspect fled the scene,” he said in a statement on Friday.
Sohaimi said further investigations revealed that about a week before the incident, the victim’s wife had repeatedly asked about the amount and details of the insurance policies taken by her husband.
“Acting on information received, a team from the Criminal Investigation Division of the Seri Alam District Police Headquarters arrested both suspects on Dec 23 to assist in the investigation,” he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder. Investigation papers have been referred to the Johor State Prosecution Director’s Office, and instructions to charge have been issued.
“Both suspects will be brought before the Johor Bahru Sessions Court on Friday. If convicted, they face imprisonment of up to 20 years,” he added.
