KUANTAN – Every political party has the freedom to decide its own strategic partners based on its priorities and objectives, says PKR secretary-general Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh.
She said PKR respects the right of any party to determine its own political direction and alliances.
“Some choose partners who share the same thinking and values, while others work with parties that hold different views — and each has its own reasons.
“Those who choose different partners may be looking to complement each other and broaden their reach, while those who align with like-minded partners usually aim to strengthen their voter base. But ultimately, these are individual choices,” she said.
Fuziah was speaking to reporters after the Back-to-School 2026 Voucher Handover programme here on Sunday.
Her comments came in response to remarks by Umno Youth Chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh, who recently expressed hopes for Umno and Pas to reunite in the name of Malay unity.
Dr Akmal made the remarks during his speech at the Umno Youth Special Convention held at Dewan Tun Dr Ismail, World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur on Saturday.
He also said that all motions and proposals from the convention would be brought to Umno’s Supreme Council for further discussion.
Among the key motions passed was a call for Umno to move swiftly towards forming unity with Pas, centred on a shared commitment to safeguarding religion and race.
Meanwhile, Fuziah stressed that the Madani Government will remain focused on strengthening support for the Unity Government.
Asked whether shifting political alliances could pose challenges to the current administration, she said such developments were open to interpretation.
“That is open to each party’s own reading,” she said briefly.
