Limiting the Prime Minister’s term is merely cosmetic.

SHAH ALAM - Machang Member of Parliament Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal stressed that there is nothing wrong with allowing a Prime Minister to serve for more than 10 years, provided the country’s top leader demonstrates excellence in service.

The Bersatu lawmaker said leaders should be evaluated based on their ability to govern the country, not on how long they hold the leadership position.

“If the Prime Minister is a good one, there is nothing wrong with allowing him to serve for more than two terms. The issue is why we want to impose this limit in the first place.

“That is why we need to first look at the necessity, whether it is truly for reform or whether there is another motive. Is it meant to prevent corruption or something else? So in my view, limiting the Prime Minister’s term is merely cosmetic,” he told Sinar Harian.

Wan Ahmad Fayhsal also said Anwar’s announcement on limiting the Prime Minister’s term appeared to be more of an attempt to mislead the public under the guise of reform.

He said the Tambun Member of Parliament should instead focus on more important reforms or policies for the well-being of the people.

“In my view, this is all more about an attempt to mislead the public, as if the government is carrying out reforms,” he said.
