DHAKA - A politician of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) was shot and killed in the capital Dhaka on Wednesday night, a senior police official said on Thursday, reported Xinhua.

Md Fazlul Karim, an additional deputy commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (Tejgaon Zone), told Xinhua that: "Two people were shot. They were rushed to a nearby hospital, but one of them was already dead on arrival."

According to the official, the incident occurred around 8pm local time in the Karwan Bazar commercial district in Dhaka.

He said the deceased, Azizur Rahman Musabbir, had previously been a senior official of Dhaka Metropolitan North Swechchhasebak Dal, the volunteer wing of BNP.
