CARACAS - Former Venezuelan opposition candidate Enrique Marquez -- who opposed Nicolas Maduro in the contested 2024 presidential election -- was released from prison Thursday, according to an opposition statement.
"It's all over now," Marquez said in a video taken by a local journalist who accompanied him and his wife, as well as another opposition member Biagio Pilieri, who was also released.
The release comes amid a wave of prisoners released by the interim Venezuelan government under pressure from the United States. - AFP
