SHAH ALAM – The position of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) deputy president Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin, including rumours of his dismissal, was not discussed at the party’s closed-door meeting, last night.
Several Bersatu leaders present at the meeting said the matter was only on the agenda of certain individuals.
Previously, a newspaper had reported rumours that Hamzah would be dismissed.
Meanwhile, Bersatu secretary-general Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali said the party’s supreme leadership council (MPT) respected the decision of president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to step down as Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman.
“The MPT will uphold decisions made on the basis of principle and responsibility,” he said in a statement.
He added that the MPT had also discussed in detail PN’s direction ahead of preparations for the 16th general election (GE16), aiming to move forward with moderate, progressive policies that were mindful of the people.
“The MPT has taken the position that Bersatu will remain a principled, consistent and loyal partner in PN.
“This cooperation will continue to be maintained for the stability and strength of the coalition,” he added.
He said the MPT welcomed the president’s advice for all Bersatu members to remain steadfast, disciplined and uphold a culture of mutual respect.
“Members should also resolve differences wisely, maturely and discreetly for the benefit of the party,” he said.
