TAWAU – A 39-year-old man was arrested after he allegedly recorded his stepchildren and wife secretly in the bathroom at a house here, last Sunday.
The case came to light when the suspect’s 12-year-old stepdaughter discovered a mobile phone hidden in the toilet, believed to be actively recording.
She alerted her mother, who then lodged a police report.
Tawau district police chief Assistant Commissioner Jasmin Hussin said police received the report at 6.27pm and arrested the suspect about two hours later to assist investigations.
He said checks on the seized phone uncovered several explicit and humiliating video recordings involving the woman and her two children, believed to have been filmed without their knowledge while they were using the bathroom.
The suspect, a labourer who lived in the same house as the victims, later admitted to the act when questioned by family members, Jasmin added.
“Initial examination found 10 video clips stored on the phone involving the victim and her children,” he said in a statement.
The case is being investigated under Sections 377D and 509 of the Penal Code for committing obscene acts and insulting the modesty of the victims.
Jasmin warned that police would take firm action against anyone involved in immoral acts or violations of personal privacy.
