Checks found the body of a 34-year-old local man in the driver’s seat, with the remains already decomposed.

MELAKA - The body of a man was found inside a car at a parking area in Ayer Keroh here today, Melaka Tengah district police chief ACP Christopher Patit said.

He said a team of police and firemen was dispatched to the parking area after they received a call at 1.48pm about a Nissan Almera emitting a foul odour and swarmed by flies.

"Checks found the body of a 34-year-old local man in the driver’s seat, with the remains already decomposed,” he said in a statement today, adding that a glass container containing traces of burnt charcoal was also found inside the vehicle.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene by a medical officer and the body was sent to the Melaka Hospital forensic department for a post-mortem, he said.

Police did not find any elements of criminal activity, he said and the case has been classified as a sudden death report but they are still looking into various angles to complete the investigation paper.
