KUALA LUMPUR – Puteri Umno Chief Datuk Nurul Amal Fauzi opened the winding-up session following debates on party president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s policy speech today with a firm warning against statements that belittle members of the wing.

She called on Malacca Umno delegate Mustafa Musa, the final speaker in the debate, to withdraw a remark he had delivered in the form of a poem, which characterised Puteri members as “gedik” - a term implying flirtatious or inappropriate behaviour.

“As a start, I ask the Malacca delegate to retract his statement. What did he label Puteri as ‘gedik’ or ‘getik’?

“That description should be withdrawn. Many Puteri members today are university graduates and such portrayals are unacceptable and disrespectful,” she said.

Nurul Amal added that Puteri members have consistently demonstrated loyalty to the party and should not be dismissed so casually.

Earlier, Mustafa had reportedly said that Umno Youth are not mischievous, if Puteri are not ‘gedik’, if Wanita do not talk and if Umno men do not raise their voices, then democracy will be dead.

In her address, Nurul Amal also reiterated Puteri’s call for stronger representation in electoral candidacies, alongside aspirations for a clearer and more meaningful role within the government.
