SHAH ALAM – A social media post by former Umno Vice-President Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein on Wednesday has triggered a wave of reactions from netizens.
The post featured a photograph of Hishammuddin seated with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, discussing matters believed to involve politics and current national issues.
“Taking some time to discuss one or two things with PMX Anwar Ibrahim during today’s parliamentary session,” the Sembrong MP wrote in a brief Facebook caption.
Many Facebook users praised the sight of both figures sharing a table, noting their ability to converse and joke despite holding differing political ideologies.
Some commentators commended Anwar for his perceived open-mindedness and "big-hearted" approach to engaging with those who hold opposing views, despite their complicated political history.
Hishammuddin famously maintained a public stance against cooperating with Pakatan Harapan (PH) following the last general election.
In a Facebook statement posted in 2022, he stated he was willing to be sacked from his party rather than change his position on the matter.
Observing the comments section, some netizens suggested that Hishammuddin, fondly known as 'H2O' may still harbour personal reservations regarding Barisan Nasional’s (BN) decision to form a Unity Government with PH.
Nevertheless, observers stated that their shared history under the Umno banner appears to have facilitated a cordial relationship within the Dewan Rakyat, transcending current political divides.
