PKR to target youth vote by showcasing five-year performance record

SHAH ALAM – PKR is actively seeking to strengthen its connection with younger voters, recognising that political loyalty cannot be assumed but must be earned through transparent communication and demonstrable results.

The party believes that showcasing achievements from the past five years while engaging with the youth directly will be crucial in securing their trust ahead of the next general election.

Former PKR Melaka Chief Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin highlighted the specific challenges posed by this demographic, noting that younger voters assess leaders based on performance rather than party affiliation.

“The young voters have no loyalties. However, they evaluate performance and that is what we need to plan for...to speak directly to them, address their concerns and share the results delivered over the past five years,” he said during a recent segment of Politically Frank by Sinar Daily.

He added that with widespread access to information and digital media, there is confidence that the younger generation can be convinced that the Pakatan Harapan-led Perpaduan Madani government has provided effective governance and public service.

Regarding internal party matters, Shamsul stated that he continues to focus on legal affairs while offering full support to the party’s appointed acting leadership.

Following the decision for him to step aside temporarily, Deputy Higher Education Minister Adam Adli has assumed the role of acting chairman.

Shamsul described this move as necessary for party unity and continuity.

“I have gone through similar experiences before, and I fully cooperate with Adam’s leadership for the betterment of the party,” he said.

At the state level in Melaka, Shamsul expressed confidence in the party’s cohesion, noting that PKR’s leadership structure is now well-aligned and prepared for upcoming electoral challenges and the organisation of the national congress later this year.

“We are now compact and ready to gear up for the state election as well as the national congress. Our unity at the state level strengthens our position at the division and grassroots levels,” he added.
