BINTULU - A woman and her grandson were found dead in a fire that destroyed a two-storey workers’ quarters of a shipping company on Jalan Nyigu, early today.
The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), in a statement, said a team from the Bintulu Fire and Rescue Station was dispatched to the scene following a distress call received at 1.01am.
Upon arrival at 1.10am, the team found that the fire involved a two-storey workers’ quarters, comprising a block of a non-permanent structure consisting of 28 doors with an estimated area of 30.48 x 9.144 square metres, completely burnt.
In the incident, Taun Nyaring, 61, and his grandson, Melbourne Jeasy, 14, were found burnt to death at the scene at 4.20am and the bodies were handed over to the police for further action, according to the statement.
The fire also destroyed four motorcycles. The fire extinguishing operation ended at 5.30am and the department is investigating the cause of the fire and losses incurred. - BERNAMA
