IPOH - A husband and wife were killed, while three others were injured in a road crash involving a four-wheel drive vehicle and two motorcycles at KM96.4 of the Kuala Kangsar-Pengkalan Hulu route in Gerik on Monday.
Gerik District Police chief Supt Abdul Samad Othman said police received information on the incident involving the 38-year-old man and his 33-year-old wife at 2.45pm.
He said initial investigations found that the Yamaha XMAX motorcycle ridden by the couple was believed to have entered the opposite lane before colliding with a Toyota Hilux driven by a 35-year-old man.
"As a result of the collision, another Yamaha XMAX ridden by a man with a female pillion rider, which was behind the first motorcycle, was unable to avoid the crash and skidded into a drain on the road shoulder,” he said in a statement yesterday.
According to Samad, the impact caused the couple to die at the scene, while the Toyota Hilux driver and the two individuals on the second motorcycle sustained injuries.
"The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987,” he added. - BERNAMA
