KUALA LUMPUR – The appointment of Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar as Chairman of Perikatan Nasional (PN) was made based on the strengths and advantages he possesses within the coalition.
PN Deputy Secretary-General and Pas Secretary-General Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said Samsuri was the only leader nominated for the position and was subsequently agreed upon unanimously during the PN Supreme Council meeting held today at the Pas headquarters.
He said the nomination of the Terengganu Menteri Besar was personally proposed by Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang.
Takiyuddin said Samsuri’s credentials, leadership experience and standing within the party were among the key considerations in selecting him to replace Bersatu President Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, who stepped down from the post in January.
Dr Samsuri’s appointment as PN chairman takes effect immediately.
