Three men fined RM1,000, to perform eight hour community service for discarding cigarette butts in public places

The three were charged with discarding their cigarette butts in a public place and not in designated containers, at Dataran Sena Indah, Jeti Kuala Perlis and in front of a bank here on Jan 1, 2 and 15.

KANGAR - Three men were each fined RM1,000 and ordered to perform eight hours of community service by the Sessions Court here today for littering by discarding cigarette butts in a public place.

Judge Sharifah Norazlita Syed Salim Idid on Idzham Husin, 43, Ahmad Nasri Mohammad Yusof, 47, both civil servants, and backhoe driver Putra Che Ani, 59, pleaded guilty to the charge.

She sentenced them to a RM1,000 fine each, in default 30 days in jail, and an order for them to complete the community service within six months.

The three were charged with discarding their cigarette butts in a public place and not in designated containers, at Dataran Sena Indah, Jeti Kuala Perlis and in front of a bank here on Jan 1, 2 and 15.

The charges against them were framed under Section 77A (1) of the Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Act 2007 (Act 672), which provides for a maximum fine of RM2,000, with a community service order not exceeding 12 hours in total within six months.

The prosecution was conducted by prosecuting officers from the Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Corporation (SWCorp), Nur Idayu Syazwani Mohd Arif, Siti Adora Rahtimin, Mohd Iqram Ismail and Mohd Fazli Janna.
