KUALA LUMPUR – As anticipation builds ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026, adidas Originals and BAPE have reunited to launch the adidas Originals x BAPE Football Collective, a lifestyle-driven collection that celebrates football culture beyond the pitch.
Blending adidas Originals’ sporting heritage with BAPE’s bold streetwear identity, the collection reinterprets classic football references through striking graphics and a newly co-created camouflage print.
Designed for both football fans and streetwear enthusiasts, the range moves seamlessly between stadium style and everyday fashion.
The collection is headlined by two standout jerseys. The first is a long-sleeved, collared fan top featuring a denim-inspired print, complete with BAPESTA and co-branded detailing.
The second reimagines a 1990s Japanese national team jersey, finished with BAPE’s signature flame graphic and “BAPE 93” personalisation on the back.
The wider range also includes lifestyle apparel, accessories and footwear. Among the highlights are the Samba BAPE and Campus 00s BAPE silhouettes, offering updated takes on classic designs intended to transition effortlessly from matchday to the streets.
At the heart of the collection’s global football narrative is a historic sporting moment in Johor Bahru in 1997, when Masayuki Okano scored the golden goal that secured Japan’s first-ever qualification for the FIFA World Cup.
The achievement marked a significant milestone built on belief and ambition — themes that now inform the collection’s statement jersey.
Drawing inspiration from that era, the redesigned jersey merges 1990s football aesthetics with contemporary streetwear identity, incorporating BAPE’s flame motifs and the distinctive “BAPE 93” back detailing.
To mark the local launch, an immersive pop-up experience was held from Feb 12 to 15, from 8.30am to 10.30pm, at Feeka@The Five in Kuala Lumpur.
The event is presented by Crossover, a retailer founded in Johor Bahru — the same city linked to the collection’s football inspiration — bringing the story full circle by connecting global football culture with Malaysian street culture.
Visitors had the opportunity to explore the collection up close, revisit iconic football moments and experience the fusion of sport and streetwear in person.
The adidas Originals x BAPE Football Collective will be available from Feb 12 onwards via adidas.com.my, at selected retailers and on BAPE.com.
