PETALING JAYA – Bersatu President Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has alleged that Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin conducted undisclosed negotiations with Umno President Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and engaged in internal movements that fractured party unity, leading to his dismissal from the party.

Speaking during an interview at the Bersatu headquarters on Monday, Muhyiddin stated that the former deputy president’s actions constituted serious disciplinary breaches, which necessitated intervention by the party’s Disciplinary Board.

Muhyiddin pointed out that the decision to expel Hamzah was based on a cumulative series of offences.

“His offences were numerous and piled up, which is why the matter was referred to the Disciplinary Board.

“I believe it is inappropriate to list them individually because a decision has already been made on solid grounds,” he said. He specifically highlighted secret meetings as a primary concern.

“For example, Zahid once stated at an assembly that he had met and negotiated with Pas and Bersatu. Some linked this to the so-called ‘Bangkok Move’.

“In our internal chat group, I asked: ‘Who met Zahid?’ There was no answer, but I have authentic information that Hamzah met him. In our party, there is discipline; this is a significant issue,” Muhyiddin added.

Muhyiddin stressed that the dismissal was not a personal reaction to a leadership challenge but was instead rooted in broader constitutional and organisational concerns.

He cited unrest, strained relations from the leadership to the grassroots level and actions that he described as a threat to party stability.

“He cannot simply act on his own accord, regardless of whose idea it was or for what purpose, without a mandate and without the permission or approval of the majority. Why act alone?” Muhyiddin questioned.

“If it was for the good of the party, did he inform me as President?

“This is not a minor matter. Apparently, he had plans to form a coalition where he would become Deputy Prime Minister and another person would become Prime Minister...there were all sorts of stories. Is this something to play around with? That issue alone is a very serious matter,” he added.

Muhyiddin added that while he could not disclose further specifics, the Disciplinary Board acted reasonably and in accordance with established procedures to safeguard the unity and constitutional order of Bersatu.
