GEORGE TOWN - Penang Agrotechnology, Food Security and Cooperative Development Committee chairman Fahmi Zainol has been dropped from the state executive council, effective today.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, who announced this, said he received an official letter from PKR secretary-general Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh yesterday requesting that the Pantai Jerejak state assemblyman be removed from his position as state exco.

"I met Fahmi this morning, and he (Fahmi) accepted the decision," he told a media conference at his office in Komtar today.

Chow said he would propose Fahmi's replacement to the Yang Dipertua Negeri of Penang, Tun Ramli Ngah Talib, this afternoon for his consent, before his office issues an official statement on the replacement.

The Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Central Leadership Council has decided to suspend Fahmi Zainol, also the Penang PKR vice-chairman, from all party posts with immediate effect after he was charged with voluntarily causing hurt to his wife.

On Feb 27, Fahmi, 35, pleaded not guilty to the charge in the Balik Pulau Magistrate's Court.

The court allowed bail of RM2,000 with one surety and fixed April 28 for the next mention.
