KUALA LUMPUR – AG Cahaya Sdn Bhd and Sorghum Earth Create Sdn Bhd have signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) to jointly develop and promote sorghum farming as part of an effort to strengthen national food security.

In a statement on Wednesday, the companies said the strategic partnership will focus on large-scale cultivation, research and development, farmer engagement, supply chain optimisation and downstream products derived from sorghum.

Sorghum, a climate-resilient grain crop, is increasingly recognised worldwide as an alternative staple due to its ability to grow in dry conditions and its lower input requirements.

“This initiative aims to position sorghum as a strategic crop that contributes to long-term agricultural sustainability and economic resilience,” the statement said.

Under the agreement, AG Cahaya will utilise its operational expertise and market network, while Sorghum Earth Create will provide technical know-how, seed development, agronomic support and sustainable farming frameworks to ensure high productivity and quality output.

Both companies said the collaboration also aims to empower local farmers, generate rural income opportunities and build a more resilient agro-food ecosystem aligned with the country's development goals.

The companies added that sorghum farming could strengthen food security by diversifying staple crops beyond rice and imported grains, while also offering economic opportunities for farmers and supporting sustainable agricultural practices.
