Local man remanded for four days over indecent conduct in mosque

SEGAMAT – A local man in his 20s was remanded for four days after being suspected of committing indecent acts inside a mosque in Bukit Siput, in an incident that went viral on social media.

Segamat district police chief, Superintendent Mohd Jumazanzahir Chek Ismail, said the suspect was arrested at 3.15am on Friday in Taman Air Biru, Pasir Gudang, by a team from the Criminal Investigation Division of Segamat district police headquarters.

“Preliminary investigations found that the man is not a resident of Segamat and holds a disability card (OKU) under the learning difficulties category.

“Checks revealed he has no previous criminal record and urine screening tests returned negative,” he said in a statement on Friday.

The case is being investigated under Section 377D of the Penal Code and the suspect has been remanded until March 9 to assist in investigations before the investigation papers are referred to the Deputy Public Prosecutor for further action.

“The police take all indecent acts seriously, especially in places of worship and strict action will be taken against anyone who violates the law,” he added.
