SHAH ALAM – Former Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin is seeking a return to the party, formally requesting that his expulsion be revoked and his membership reinstated.
Khairy stated that the request was made in the spirit of the ‘Rumah Bangsa’ initiative, following a recent meeting with Umno President Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi during the month of Ramadan.
In a statement, Khairy expressed his appreciation for Zahid’s openness and generosity in receiving him to discuss his potential return.
“With the generosity of the President, he welcomed me back to my old home, the only home I have ever known. I hope that the Umno President, the Supreme Council and the Rumah Bangsa Committee will consider my request,” he said.
Amid the current uncertainty in the Malaysian political landscape, Khairy emphasised that Umno must be strengthened as a platform to unite the Malays and drive development for all Malaysians.
The former Health Minister stressed that he is not set on making any personal demands or conditions if granted the opportunity to rejoin.
“I am not asking for anything; it is enough to be given the opportunity to serve as an ordinary crew member.
“What matters is that this ‘vessel’ of the nation continues to sail through the waves and storms of the times, carrying the hope of a united, strong, and dignified nation,” he added.
Zahid confirmed earlier that Khairy had formally delivered a letter seeking readmission during their meeting yesterday.
Khairy was expelled from the party in January 2023 following internal disciplinary action.
