After KJ, Hishammuddin also appeals to return to Umno – Asyraf Wajdi

Umno had received several letters from leaders who were previously suspended or expelled, expressing their intention to return and strengthen Umno’s “Rumah Bangsa”.

SHAH ALAM – Former Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein has submitted a letter appealing to return to the party.

Umno secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said the Sembrong MP is among several former leaders who have applied to rejoin Umno, in addition to former Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin.

He said the party had received several letters from leaders who were previously suspended or expelled, expressing their intention to return and strengthen Umno’s “Rumah Bangsa”.

“Besides Khairy Jamaluddin, many leaders who have contributed to the party have submitted letters to return and strengthen this Rumah Bangsa, including Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein.

“May Allah bless Umno so that it can continue championing the agenda of Islam, the Malays and the nation,” he said in a Facebook post.

Earlier, Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi revealed that he had received a visit from Khairy, who submitted a letter appealing to rejoin the party.

Previously, Hishammuddin said he was ready to return and continue his struggle with Umno if the party were to lift the suspension of his membership.

He also thanked Zahid for opening the door to former members who had been suspended or expelled to return to the party.

Hishammuddin was suspended from Umno for six years beginning Jan 27, 2023, equivalent to two terms of the party’s Supreme Council.
