Police search for man who allegedly ran over wife’s head with motorcycle

Police are searching for a 22-year-old man suspected of violently assaulting his wife in Kota Shahbandar early Sunday, an incident captured on CCTV and widely shared on social media.

Based on CCTV systems footage, the suspect, believed to be a delivery rider, was seen slapping and pulling the hair of his 20-year-old wife during the 4am incident before escalating the attack.

MELAKA – Police are searching for a 22-year-old man suspected of carrying out a violent assault on his wife, including allegedly running over her head with a motorcycle.

The incident occurred in Kota Shahbandar early on Sunday morning and drew widespread attention after a 56-second video went viral on social media.

Based on closed-circuit television (CCTV) systems footage, the suspect, believed to be a delivery rider, was seen slapping and pulling the hair of his 20-year-old wife during the 4am incident before escalating the attack.

Melaka Police Chief Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said authorities were alerted after the victim’s 51-year-old mother viewed the CCTV recording at a family entertainment outlet in the area.

According to initial investigations, the victim was rushed to Melaka Hospital by ambulance at 4.41am and treated in the red zone for her injuries.

“The victim was confirmed to have sustained soft tissue injuries to the head and right cheek. After receiving treatment, she was taken back to her mother’s house in Tanjung Minyak Perdana,” he said.

However, later that same day at about 8pm, the victim was reported missing after she was believed to have left with her two-year-old son in the company of the suspect.

“The victim’s mother also discovered that the back door of the house had been forced open, and attempts to contact the victim were unsuccessful.

“A police report was lodged out of concern for the safety of the victim and her child,” he added.

Police said efforts to locate the suspect are ongoing, with investigations being conducted under laws related to domestic violence.
