KINABATANGAN – A father witnessed a devastating tragedy when his son was killed in a crocodile attack at Kampung Segaliud on Tuesday.
The incident, which occurred at about 8pm, saw the victim, Mohd Rayyan Abdullah, 28, disappear from sight after being seized by the reptile while at the river.
Kinabatangan Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) chief Hairi Otuh said an emergency call was received at 8.22pm.
“The operations commander reported that the victim was attacked by a crocodile while carrying out prawn netting activities in the river.
“According to the victim’s father, who was also at the scene, his son was attacked right before his eyes,” he said in a statement on Tuesday night.
He said four personnel were deployed to the location, about 30 kilometres from the Kinabatangan station.
“The team rushed to the scene to gather further information before initiating a search and rescue (SAR) operation,” he said.
