JOHOR BAHRU – Authorities foiled an attempt to siphon about 800 litres of diesel after a suspicious lorry was stopped during a patrol operation at a petrol station along the Pasir Gudang Highway on Monday afternoon.

Johor Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) director Lilis Saslinda Pornomo said the Enforcement Patrol Unit (URP) detected the vehicle at about 2pm before detaining it for further inspection.

“Upon inspection, we found the lorry had been modified with two pumps connected directly from the original tank to an additional Intermediate Bulk Container (IBC) in the storage area.

“The tank is believed to contain around 800 litres of diesel,” she said in a statement.

She added that the method was believed to be used for illegal transfer and storage of diesel.

“Further checks on the driver, a local man, revealed that he failed to produce any valid documents, including a special permit for storing or purchasing the fuel.

“As a result, a case was filed under the Control of Supplies Act 1961. The total value of the seizure is estimated at RM20,716,” she said.

KPDN Johor stressed that any attempt to siphon controlled goods, including through vehicle modification, is a serious offence and will not be compromised.
