JASIN - Police have launched an investigation after a viral video showed a man believed to be driving under the influence of alcohol, causing his van to skid onto the road shoulder near a bend heading towards the Kerayong junction.
The 24-second clip, which began circulating on Monday night, shows the driver, estimated to be in his 20s to 30s, appearing semi-conscious and smiling following the incident.
It remains unclear whether other vehicles were involved in the accident.
“Look at your friend, causing trouble. Driving a van while drunk, all over the place, the smell of alcohol is very strong,” said the woman who recorded the video.
Jasin District Police Chief, Superintendent Lee Robert said authorities are currently investigating the matter despite not receiving any formal report about the incident.
“The police did not receive any report regarding this incident. However, early this morning, we detected the viral video on Facebook.
“The traffic investigation team and the MPV unit from the Jasin District Police Headquarters (IPD) went to the location after viewing the video, but found that the driver and the vehicle were no longer at the scene,” he said.
He added that investigations are ongoing and updates will be provided as new information becomes available.
