KLANG – A driver remains traumatised after a motorcyclist landed on the roof of his car during a fatal accident along Jalan Raya Barat here on Sunday.
The man, who wished to be known as Megan, 42, said he had been unable to sleep for two days as the incident kept replaying in his mind.
He said he was driving a Perodua Myvi with a friend while heading towards Port Klang when the incident occurred.
The situation unfolded rapidly before he realised the victim had landed on top of his vehicle.
“I thought my car did not hit anything. Suddenly, I noticed someone was on top of my car.
“I realised when I saw the victim’s hand hanging over the front windscreen on the driver’s side and at that time I was unsure of his condition,” he said.
Megan said that in a state of panic, he decided to drive slowly to prevent the victim from falling onto the road.
“I drove slowly because I did not want him to fall. I thought it did not matter if my car was damaged, as long as he was safe.
“I then stopped by the roadside, praying that he would survive,” he said.
However, after getting out of the vehicle, he found that the victim was no longer showing any signs of movement.
He said the moment became a traumatic experience that continues to haunt him.
“I cannot sleep. I am afraid and even now I feel disturbed about driving a car or riding a motorcycle,” he said.
Megan added that he was also facing difficulties as the car he was driving was not covered by comprehensive insurance.
“The car belongs to a friend and only has third-party insurance, so I cannot make any claim.
“Now I have to bear the repair costs myselfand the car has been held at the police station for investigation,” he said.
He said the situation had affected him as he needed the vehicle for his daily work.
However, he said several other witnesses had come forward to provide accurate accounts of the incident.
“I feel sad because I found out the victim has a family and young children,” he said.
He stressed that the incident not only claimed a life but also affected many innocent people.
“One person’s wrongdoing causes hardship for many. I am also affected by this incident.
“This individual’s actions were very irresponsible and firm action must be taken as a lesson to others,” he said.
In the incident at about 11.40am on Sunday, Amirul Hafiz Omar was killed after the motorcycle he was riding was hit by a car driven by a man along Jalan Raya Barat.
South Klang district police chief assistant commissioner Lim Jit Huey said the accident involved a motorcycle and two cars.
He said initial investigations found that a Honda City driven by a local man in his 20s was travelling from Jalan Raya Barat towards Bandar Klang at high speed in a dangerous manner.
He added that the driver was believed to have overtaken several vehicles before entering the opposite lane and colliding with the victim’s motorcycle.
