SEREMBAN - A 20-year-old chef pleaded guilty in the Sessions Court here to a charge of raping his girlfriend's 16-year-old daughter.
The accused did not contest the charge after it was read to him before judge Surita Budin on Tuesday (April 7).
He was charged with committing the offence at a house in Rembau between 8 am and 10 am sometime between Feb 26 and 28.
He was charged under Section 376(1) of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to 20 years and caning upon conviction.
Deputy public prosecutor Norazihah Asmuni told the court the prosecution was not offering the accused bail pending sentencing.
However, judge Surita said the court would allow the accused bail of RM10,000.
She also fixed June 15 for the submission of a probation report and sentencing.
In an unrelated case, a 19-year-old storekeeper claimed trial in the same court to a charge of committing physical sexual assault against his 14-year-old girlfriend.
He was charged with committing the offence around 4pm on March 20 under a bridge in Kg Esok in Kenaboi, Jelebu.
He was charged under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, which carries a jail term of up to 20 years and caning, if convicted.
DPP Norazihah said her team was offering the accused bail of RM30,000 pending next mention.
She also asked the court to order the accused to stay away from the accused and to report to the nearest police station monthly pending disposal of the case.
Defence counsel Mohd Hanif Hassan pleaded for an amount below RM5,000 as the accused did not earn much as a storekeeper.
Judge Surita then set bail at RM9,000 and fixed June 15 for next mention and submission of documents. - THE STAR
