KUANTAN - The struggle to obtain essential goods during the Covid-19 pandemic around six years ago has led a housewife here to start keeping a stock of dry food for long-term use.
Aminah, 45, said experience made her realise the importance of planning ahead to ensure her family never ran short of basic necessities.
“I learned a lesson from what happened during Covid-19. That was when I realised how important it is to have food supply at home in case of emergencies.
“Since then, I have gradually stocked supplies for the next two to three months so that it is manageable and not overwhelming,” she said.
The mother of three said her stock included rice, cooking oil, sardines, sugar, salt and flour, all of which have long shelf lives.
She said that she buys the items in small quantities according to her monthly budget.
“If there is extra money, I top up my existing stock little by little and always check the expiry dates.
“I also make sure everything is stored in airtight containers to maintain quality,” she added.
Aminah also encouraged the public to plan their finances wisely and avoid impulsive bulk buying trends.
“Buy according to your means. The goal is to always have basic necessities at home without putting pressure on your finances,” she advised.
