SHAH ALAM - Johor Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK) says there is no urgent need to hold the state election in the near future, citing economic uncertainty and global instability linked to the West Asia crisis.
Its chief, Mohd Faezuddin Puad, said ongoing geopolitical tensions and disruptions to energy chains are affecting people’s lives and require serious attention from all parties.
“We must be aware, concerned and sensitive to the current hardships faced by the people,” he said in a statement.
He also warned that rising travel costs could discourage voter turnout.
“There is a risk that the outcome may not truly reflect the voice of the majority if turnout is low,” he added.
Faezuddin noted that the concern was not unfounded, as the 2022 Johor state election, held during the Covid-19 pandemic, recorded only a 54.92 per cent turnout.
As such, AMK Johor has called for the election to be postponed until conditions improve.
“At this point, the people’s welfare should come before political interests,” he said.
