IPOH - A man was killed while his wife and four children were injured after the sport utility vehicle (SUV) they were travelling in skidded and plunged into a three-metre-deep ravine at KM21, Jalan Tapah heading towards Cameron Highlands, near Tapah, last night.
Perak Fire and Rescue Department operations assistant director Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said the 8.43pm crash claimed the life of the 44-year-old driver of the Perodua Aruz, while the five injured passengers were aged between six and 48.
He said the family was believed to have been travelling from Kuala Lumpur to Cameron Highlands, Pahang, to pay their last respects to a close relative who had passed away.
"Preliminary information indicates that the vehicle carrying the family is believed to have gone out of control before skidding into the ravine and overturning in a shallow river in the area.
"Our team conducted a size-up at the location before applying the SAVER concept to extricate the trapped victim, while the five injured victims had earlier been rescued by members of the public,” he said.
Sabarodzi added that the victim’s body had been handed over to the police for further action, while those injured were taken to a nearby hospital for follow-up treatment. - BERNAMA
