AMPANG – The management committee of Surau Taman Seraya has lodged 10 police reports over alleged disturbances involving a resident in the area.

Surau Taman Seraya chairman Abdullah Sulaiman said the reports were not intended to spark any conflict, but to refute what he described as defamatory claims against the surau.

“We decided to lodge police reports following several forms of disturbance that were said to involve issues related to religion, royalty and race (3R),” he said at a press conference after filing the reports at the Pandan Indah police station on Friday.

Abdullah said the individual concerned had sent personal WhatsApp messages which were seen as a form of pressure and harassment towards the surau committee.

“Among the issues raised was the claim that the call to prayer currently being broadcast was disturbing the individual.

“Besides that, he also requested that congregational prayers, which have been held since Nov 15, 2019, be stopped as they were allegedly disrupting traffic flow,” he said.

“The issue has in fact been ongoing for some time, but it escalated recently after several new demands were made, placing pressure on the surau management,” he said.

Abdullah said a dialogue session would be held at 10am at the Teratai state assemblyman’s office, involving the committee, relevant agencies, police and the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ).

Ampang Jaya police chief Assistant Commissioner Khairul Anuar Khalid, when contacted, confirmed that the reports had been received and said the case was under investigation.
