KUALA LUMPUR – For many artistes and creative industry workers, long hours and unpredictable schedules are part of the job — but maintaining a healthy lifestyle remains essential.
Bandar Tun Razak Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said staying active through sports and prioritising overall well-being is crucial, not just for physical health but also for mental clarity.
She noted that those in the creative field are in a unique position to influence others, especially younger generations, to adopt healthier habits.
“We want to nurture a generation that is not only physically healthy, but also mentally sharp,” she said during the Raya Karyawan Bersama Komuniti Sejahtera celebration here recently.
The event brought together community members and industry figures, including Political Secretary to the Prime Minister Datuk Azman Abidin and Malaysian Artistes Association (Karyawan) president Freddie Fernandez.
Health concerns within the industry were also highlighted, particularly among artistes dealing with chronic illnesses. Freddie urged his peers to take better care of themselves by making mindful lifestyle choices.
“To fellow artistes, take care of your health. Reduce sugar intake and oily foods. Many artistes suffer kidney problems due to excessive sugar consumption,” he said, adding that smoking should also be avoided.
Beyond health, Karyawan continues to advocate for the welfare of artistes, including issues such as royalties, payments, pension schemes and insurance, in collaboration with the government.
Freddie also pointed to the removal of the entertainment tax on local performances in 2024 as a positive step for the industry, while noting ongoing efforts to nurture new talent through initiatives such as an indie music festival planned for August.
The Aidilfitri celebration aimed to strengthen community ties while promoting well-being, alongside the launch of the Bandar Tun Razak Parliamentary Telehealth Kiosk to improve access to healthcare services.
As part of the event, BIG CARING Group contributed RM20,000 to Karyawan in support of artistes’ welfare and the creative industry, as well as 140 Rahmah contribution boxes for those in need.
