SHAH ALAM – Behind every successful business is a story of risk, resilience and relentless hustle and Bisnes Sinar Harian Awards (BISA) 2026 is bringing those stories to the forefront.

More than just an awards night, BISA returns with a bigger vision to spotlight real entrepreneurial journeys, celebrate impact and build a community where Malaysia’s business players can grow, connect and inspire the next wave of changemakers.

The awards ceremony will take place on May 6 at Royale Chulan Damansara, bringing together industry players, entrepreneurs and business leaders to celebrate achievements that have contributed to the nation’s economic growth and sustainability.

Sinar Karangkraf chief executive officer Farah Hussamuddin said the initiative reflects the group’s long journey and deep understanding of the challenges faced by entrepreneurs.

“For more than 48 years, Karangkraf Group has gone through many ups and downs. However, we have continued to grow and transform alongside changes in technology and the needs of Malaysians.

“This is why we truly understand the struggles of entrepreneurs and business owners, as we also started from the ground up,” she said.

She said BISA is designed to go beyond recognition, offering a platform that nurtures collaboration within the business community.

“Unlike other business awards in the country, BISA is not just about recognising achievements.

“We also aim to build a business community that supports, connects and uplifts one another,” she said.

Farah added that winners would have their stories shared across Karangkraf’s media platforms, allowing their journeys to inspire others.

These entrepreneurs, she said will become a source of inspiration, especially for new business owners and the younger generation who are increasingly interested in entrepreneurship.

“What matters most is that every journey begins with a first step through platforms like BISA,” she said.

Meanwhile, Sinar Harian group editor-in-chief Zamri Rambli said the awards serve as a key platform to recognise the role of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the national economy.

“This programme was created to acknowledge the significant contribution of MSMEs, which account for more than 35 per cent of Malaysia’s Gross Domestic Product and provide employment to millions of people,” he said.

He said BISA extends beyond an awards night by incorporating networking opportunities and promotional initiatives.

“BISA is not just an awards ceremony, but also includes various business networking activities such as engagement sessions with founders and entrepreneurs, as well as the creation of promotional content,” he added.

Zamri said since its introduction in 2023, the initiative has played a role in connecting entrepreneurs and opening doors for collaboration.

It also serves as a platform for entrepreneurs to share their experiences and introduce their businesses to Malaysians, he added.

“At the same time, it is expected to motivate new entrepreneurs and the younger generation, especially as interest in business among Gen Z continues to grow,” he said.

For its 2026 edition, BISA introduces several enhancements, including the addition of around 10 to 11 main categories such as education, property, insurance and fashion.

Each category will feature six to seven awards, increasing the total number of recognitions from about 26 previously to nearly 60 this year.

In total, almost 40 awards, including jury-selected honours will be presented, with 31 companies expected to receive recognition, alongside the continuation of a special entrepreneur icon award.

The event is supported by strategic partners Royale Chulan, Boustead Holdings and Edaran Otomobil Nasional Berhad (EON), with additional support from PLUS Malaysia Berhad (PLUS), Lexis Hotel Group, Jasmine Food and Yayasan Pembangunan Ekonomi Islam Malaysia (YAPEIM).

The black-tie gala night will also feature performances by Malaysian singer Ella, accompanied by Monocort Band and comedian Mad Sabah.

BISA 2026 continues to position itself as more than just an awards platform, but as a meaningful initiative to celebrate, connect and elevate Malaysia’s entrepreneurial landscape.
