SUNGAI BULOH – A boy who was swept away by strong currents in Bandar Puncak Alam on Tuesday is believed to have been playing ball with his friends before heading to a nearby drain at the location of the incident.
The victim, identified as Khairil Izani Khaizalullinudin, 10, was reported missing after he was believed to have fallen into the drain and was carried away by strong currents during heavy rain.
Sungai Buloh District Police chief, Superintendent Mohd Hafiz Muhammad Nor said police received a call about the incident at around 7.10 pm.
Initial investigations found that the victim had earlier been at the Phase 3 Puncak Alam football field with two friends, aged 11 and 12.
“At around 3 pm, the victim and his friends were playing ball at the field during heavy rain.
“Based on information from the victim’s friends, the child later went to a nearby drain for reasons that could not be ascertained before he is believed to have fallen in and was swept away by strong currents,” he said in a statement on Wednesday.
Mohd Hafiz said a search and rescue (SAR) operation is actively underway with the cooperation of the fire department and other relevant agencies at the scene.
He added that the victim was last seen wearing a green jersey with the number eight on the back and black track pants.
“The public is advised not to speculate on the incident.

Previously, Sinar Harian reported that the 10-year-old boy believed to have drowned after falling into the drain and being swept away by strong currents.
