Knife-wielding man running amok in Damansara Perdana arrested

Police arrested a man after he allegedly acted aggressively and ran amok while wielding two knives at a shop lot area in Damansara Perdana, near Petaling Jaya, yesterday.

Police found the suspect on a staircase next to a premises, holding two knives.

KUALA LUMPUR - Police arrested a man after he allegedly acted aggressively and ran amok while wielding two knives at a shop lot area in Damansara Perdana, near Petaling Jaya, yesterday.

Petaling Jaya police chief ACP Shamsudin Mamat said the department received a public report regarding the incident at 7pm, following which a team from the Damansara Police Station was dispatched to the scene.

"Upon arrival, police found the suspect on a staircase next to a premises, holding two knives.

"Officers approached the suspect and ordered him to surrender before he was successfully apprehended without any untoward incident,” he said in a statement today.

Shamsudin added that the suspect has been remanded for three days starting today, after a remand application under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code was granted by the Petaling Jaya Magistrate’s Court.

The case is being investigated under Section 6(1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958 for carrying offensive weapons in a public place.

The police have advised the public to refrain from speculating, which could interfere with the investigation and have urged anyone with information related to the incident to come forward to assist in the probe. - BERNAMA
