Unemployed man charged over elderly neighbour's death

A former special assistant to Seputeh Member of Parliament Teresa Kok Suh Kim was charged in the Sessions Court here today with two counts involving fraud and the acceptance of a RM500,000 bribe linked to the procurement of smart boards two years ago.

Foon Choon Keong, 53, nodded after the charge was read out before Magistrate Evangelin Simon Silvaraj, but no plea was recorded as the case falls under the jurisdiction of the High Court.

IPOH - An unemployed man was charged in the Magistrate's Court here today with the murder of an elderly woman who was his neighbour last week.

According to the charge, Foon, who is not married, is charged with murdering Woo Chui Fun, 70, at a house in Persiaran Pegoh Aman 2, Taman Desa Aman here between 4.40 pm and 10 pm on May 4, 2026.

The charge, framed under Section 302 of the Penal Code, provides for the death penalty or imprisonment for not less than 30 years but not more than 40 years and if not sentenced to death, shall be punished with a minimum of 12 strokes of the cane, if convicted.

The prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Muhammad Zulqarnain Wan Asmira, while the accused was represented by lawyer Khesminkapil Singh Dhanoa.

No bail was allowed for the accused, and the court set Aug 3 for mention for the submission of the chemist and autopsy reports. - BERNAMA
