SHAH ALAM – Bank Rakyat has partnered with Mastercard to launch the Bank Rakyat World Mastercard Credit Card-i, a premium Shariah-compliant card offering travel-focused rewards and lifestyle benefits for Malaysian consumers.
Designed for frequent travellers and lifestyle users, the new card combines cashback rewards, airport lounge access and overseas spending benefits under a Shariah-compliant framework.
Bank Rakyat chairman Datuk Mohd Irwan Mohd Mubarak said the card reflected the bank’s focus on innovation while remaining aligned with customer values and lifestyle needs.
“At Bank Rakyat, our focus is on driving product innovation to deliver real value to cardholders through products that respect their values and serve their lifestyle.
“The World Mastercard Credit Card-i is built around what our customers actually need, meaningful cashback on travel and no hidden forex fees,” he said.
He added that the Shariah-compliant framework allowed Malaysian travellers to enjoy premium global benefits without compromising Islamic principles.
The card also includes access to Mastercard World Privileges, which features travel concierge services, exclusive hotel benefits, golf privileges and complimentary international data roaming services.
Mastercard Malaysia and Brunei country manager Beena Pothen said the collaboration reflects Mastercard’s commitment to strengthening Malaysia’s digital financial ecosystem and supporting its role as a regional commerce and travel hub.
“We bring our global payment network, established travel partnerships and security infrastructure to enable Malaysian cardholders to participate confidently in international commerce.
“By collaborating with Bank Rakyat, we are advancing financial inclusion and giving more Malaysian consumers access to premium banking services,” she said.
Among its key features is a five per cent cashback on hotel bookings, airline ticket purchases and dining transactions, capped at RM1,500 annually.
Cardholders will also receive six complimentary accesses per year to Mastercard-affiliated airport lounges worldwide, alongside zero foreign exchange markup on overseas transactions.
The card further offers accelerated reward points, with users earning 10 times Rakyat Rewards points for every RM10 spent overseas and two times Rakyat Rewards points for every RM10 spent domestically.
The Bank Rakyat World Mastercard Credit Card-i will be available starting June 2026.
