SHAH ALAM - Selangor Pas Youth has called for the resignation of the Selangor State Assembly Speaker Lau Weng San, while also urging DAP to respect the Royal Address delivered by the Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.
The group argued that the situation reflects a broader issue of declining political decorum and alleged disregard for the constitutional monarchy, which it described as a cornerstone of national stability.
Selangor Pas Youth chief Mohamed Sukri Omar issued a strongly worded statement defending the Sultan’s intervention and criticising political conduct during the state assembly sitting.
“The Royal Address of His Royal Highness the Sultan of Selangor must be respected, DAP is synonymous with disrespect towards the Royal Institution. We demand the Selangor State Assembly speaker to resign.
“The highest respect and gratitude for the firm statement by His Royal Highness the Sultan of Selangor who reminded all parties of the importance of understanding and appreciating the principles of the ‘Rukun Negara’, particularly in matters of courtesy, decorum and respect for the Constitutional Monarchy Institution.
“When His Royal Highness the Sultan of Selangor himself publicly rebuked the Seri Kembangan Member of Parliament (MP) Wong Siew Ki and DAP's former state exco, Ronnie Liu, it proves that the level of political disrespect has crossed acceptable boundaries.
“More disappointingly, Ronnie still went so far as to suggest that pig farmers take legal action after the issue had received serious attention from the Selangor Palace. Such statements clearly reflect arrogance, a disregard for public sensitivity and a failure to understand the spirit of the Rukun Negara,” he said in a statement.
Sukri said while political actors often emphasise democracy and national unity, their conduct must also reflect proper respect for constitutional institutions.
He argued that although DAP speaks about democracy, it does not appear to understand the etiquette required in relation to the Constitutional Monarchy, which he described as the backbone of national stability.
He also said that despite championing unity, their actions and statements repeatedly offend an institution that serves as a unifying umbrella for all citizens regardless of race and religion.
Sukri further claimed that these actions reflect a recurring pattern of behaviour that portrays political leadership in a negative light.
“In reality, DAP is closely associated with a political culture of disrespect towards the royal institution. The public has witnessed one incident after another demonstrating the failure of its leadership to uphold manners, tradition and the spirit of the Federal Constitution.
“The Seri Kembangan assemblyman should also realise that the State Assembly sitting, especially when addressing a Royal Address from His Royal Highness, is not a platform to revive polemics that have already caused public unease.
“A mature representative should instead propose solutions and safeguard state harmony, not provoke cheap political controversy.
“At the same time, the Speaker of the Selangor State Assembly cannot escape responsibility.
“His failure to take firm and immediate action against the conduct that triggered this controversy reflects a serious weakness in upholding the dignity of the Assembly and respecting the royal address of His Royal Highness the Sultan of Selangor,” he added.
Sukri called for the Speaker of the Selangor State Assembly to resign, saying it would serve as a form of accountability for failing to manage the proceedings with sufficient authority and to uphold the dignity of the state institution.
He also urged for a more respectful and mature political culture in Selangor.
“The people of Selangor want mature, respectful politics that honours national institutions, not arrogant politics that provokes public sentiment and belittles the Constitutional Monarchy,” he emphasised.
Sukri also ended his statement with a Malay poem emphasising loyalty to the monarchy:
Air tenang jangan disangka tiada buaya,
Dalam sungai banyak rahsia,
Setia kepada raja tanda mulia,
Menderhaka rosak bangsa dan negara.
Pucuk pauh ditimpa kedondong,
Jatuh sebiji ke dalam perigi,
Adat Melayu penuh sanjung,
Daulat raja dipelihara sepenuh hati.
