SEREMBAN - A seven-month-old baby boy who died while sleeping in a cradle at a babysitter’s house in Bandar Sri Sendayan on Tuesday is believed to have died due to pressure on the neck, police said.
Seremban district police chief Azahar Abdul Rahim said the finding was obtained following a five-hour post-mortem conducted at the Forensic Medical Unit of Hospital Rembau.
“The post-mortem conducted by Dr Akma Nurain Fairuz Mahamad Arif from 11am to 4pm yesterday at Hospital Rembau confirmed that there was pressure on the victim’s neck.
“We are still awaiting further test results,” he said in a statement on Thursday.
He said the 38-year-old female babysitter has been remanded for six days from Wednesday until May 25 to assist investigations under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001.
He also said the babysitter was not registered with the Social Welfare Department (JKM) and was privately caring for children for payment.
Previously, Azahar said police received a report about the incident at 10pm on Tuesday after the complainant, who is the baby’s mother, informed them that she had received a call from the babysitter saying her child was unconscious.
Investigations found that the baby had been under the babysitter’s care since December 2025. During the incident, the babysitter was believed to have put the baby to sleep in a cradle while giving the child a silicone pacifier.
