SHAH ALAM - Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari has revealed that he was due to join the final phase of the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) 2.0 mission to Gaza, but the boat assigned to his delegation was sunk in an incident believed to have been sabotage.
Amirudin said the issue with the boat was identified early, before he and his delegation could board it.
"However, Insya-Allah, we will not stop here and will ensure that the message on the situation of the people in Gaza gets across. We want to break the silence and the siege on the people of Gaza,” he told reporters after the Selangor People’s Tuition Programme and the Didik Kasih Programme 2026 at Dewan Raja Muda Musa, Section 7, here today.
Also present were State Youth, Sports and Entrepreneurship Committee chairman Mohd Najwan Halimi, and Human Resources and Poverty Eradication Committee chairman V. Papparaidu.
Meanwhile, Amirudin, who is also the mission’s patron, expressed gratitude over the release of 29 Malaysian activists who were recently detained in international waters, and said they are expected to return to Malaysia by the end of the week.
He described the detention as an abduction by the increasingly desperate Israeli regime and strongly condemned the physical abuse and pressure endured by the activists while in detention.
He added that the state government is now awaiting a final report to ensure that the 30 containers of aid sent last month reach their destination soon.
The Sumud Nusantara Command Centre (SNCC) confirmed on May 20 that all 50 vessels in the GSF 2.0 mission, carrying 428 humanitarian activists from 40 countries, were intercepted by Israeli naval forces in international waters, about 80 nautical miles off the coast of Gaza.
On the full investigation report into the gas pipeline explosion in Putra Heights, Subang Jaya, Amirudin said the state government is ready to make it public, but will first need feedback from the federal government.
He emphasised that the state administration is committed to transparency, as the report will be reviewed by an independent committee comprising two opposition representatives and technical experts. - BERNAMA
